Let our Candles Burn Out so you don’t have to…
As a young medical student, I am well versed in the notions of high stress environments and elevated expectations. My wellness journey hasn’t always been straightforward, often I find myself teetering from one extreme to the other struggling to find the right balance when my career aspirations occupy so much of my time and mental energy; and yet, I have learned that some things must be prioritized above all else.
I found yoga when I was 12 and immediately fell in love with the profound sense of peace that I was able to harness on my mat, I now teach at a studio in Chapel Hill. I also love to run, cook, and read, spend time with friends, my boyfriend, and go back home to Europe to be with my family.
For a long time I felt that pursuing other hobbies and interests would detract from time spent studying or applying myself to being the best future physician I could be. I have come to realize, however, that being a good healthcare professional also means being a healthy human being, physically and mentally. Taking care of myself is not a distraction from taking care of others, it is the first step. My hope in creating Sapiessence with Hailey and Elena, is that our candles will serve as a small reminder of all you have to be grateful for, all the people you love, and the moments and places that make you happy, helping you to prioritize your well being every time you light one of our wicks.
